Who we are
Lamplit is a small, independently run website where readers keep a diary of the books they read. Lamplit is responsible for the personal information described here. You can contact us at hello@lamplit.org.
What we collect
- Your email address, to send you sign-in links. It is never shown to other readers.
- Your profile: the name, username and bio you choose. These are public.
- What you add: books you log, dates, ratings, reviews, verses, your Want to read list, lists you make, likes, and reports you send. Everything except reports is public.
- A sign-in cookie, which keeps you signed in. We don't use advertising or tracking cookies.
- Anonymous visit statistics, such as which pages are viewed and which site you came from, using Vercel Web Analytics. It uses no cookies and doesn't identify you.
Why we use it
We use this information to run your account and show your diary, reviews and lists on the site, which is the service you sign up for. We use reports to keep the site safe. We don't sell your information or use it for advertising.
Who else handles it
- Supabase stores the database and handles sign-in.
- Resend delivers sign-in emails.
- Vercel hosts the website and provides the anonymous visit statistics.
- Cloudflare manages the lamplit.org domain and forwards emails sent to us.
- Open Library (Internet Archive) supplies book details and covers. We fetch these ourselves, so Open Library doesn't see who is reading Lamplit.
These services may store data outside the UK. Where they do, they use legal safeguards such as standard contractual clauses.
How long we keep it
We keep your information until you delete your account. Deleting your account removes your profile, diary, reviews, lists, likes and reports straight away. We keep private backup copies of the database for up to three months in case something goes wrong, so your information leaves those within three months. Backups held by our providers are cleared on their normal schedule.
Your rights
You can see, correct, download or delete your information at any time:
- Edit your profile and entries on the site.
- Download everything we hold about you, or delete your account, from Settings.
You can also contact us at hello@lamplit.org for anything else, including objecting to how we use your information. If you're unhappy with our response, you can complain to the Information Commissioner's Office at ico.org.uk.
Age
Lamplit is for people aged 13 and over.
Changes
If we change this policy, we'll update the date at the top. For significant changes we'll let signed-in readers know.
